Meditation and Study Programs in Modern Buddhism

Art of Enlightenment

In this course, Saturday, July 14, you will learn the traditional Buddhist technique for making and using a mala. A mala is a string of beads used to count prayers or mantra recitations. For Buddhist practitioners, their mala is a very precious and meaningful object for them.

During this mala making workshop, you’ll have a chance to make a mala from beads we provide or bring your own.

Mala making 10:00am - 12:00pm

During the second half of this class, learn the ancient and sacred art of statue filling. All Buddha statues should be filled in a qualified way before being placed on a shrine. We will learn how to correctly prepare, clean and seal small statues up to 12 inches, and how to prepare filling substances, including mantra rolling.

It is said that filling statues creates the causes to be filled with inner realizations of compassion and wisdom. You are welcome to bring your own statue, there are many available to purchase at the Center, and we will have extra statues on hand for practice. However, there will not be enough time to fill a statue in this workshop, but you will learn the steps and gain the tools you need to finish it at home.

Statue filling 1:00pm - 4:30pm

Course Fees: $35 all day or $20 for each course; price includes materials
